When I moved out of home, I needed my own furniture. I recalled a Parker buffet we had growing up. I was delighted to hear it was still with us, packed away in the corner of the garage. After clearing all that had been stored on top of it. I pulled back its cover. My eyes lit up! It was more beautiful than the younger me could have appreciated. It's been in every one of my homes for the last 25 years. I stare and admire it often. It taught me a valuable lesson - that the ultimate measure of design success, is timelessness. For it takes time for that rare object to emerge, that whilst it looks of a time past, still looks beautiful all these years later.

This design is a modern take on that Parker buffet. What I admired most, was the timber profile around the edge of the buffet doors, that gives it depth. This was the starting point for this design. The rebate that runs around the front of the piece, forms a shadow gap between the cabinet and the doors panels, creating depth. This shadow detail is also the means of opening the drawers and cupboard. The absence of handles, giving the piece a simplicity and elegance.
